In Memoriam: Nancy Norton Tomasko *95

The Department of East Asian Studies announces that Nancy Norton Tomasko *95 passed away in Manhattan on December 28, 2018 at age 71, following a complicated illness. Tomasko earned her Ph.D. in the Department of East Asian Studies in Ming literature under the direction of Yu-kung Kao and was a student of Willard J. Peterson, Andrew H. Plaks, Denis C. Twitchett, H.T. Tang, and James T.C. Liu. Her dissertation was entitled "Chung Hsing (1574-1625): a literary name in the Wan-li era (1573-1620) of Ming China".

While a Ph.D. student she conducted research at Fudan and Beijing Universities and was the recipient of an AAUW Fellowship (American Association of University Women), at that time the oldest non-university program of graduate fellowships for women. Tomasko began her association with the East Asian Library Journal in 1997 and became the editor in 2000 until her retirement in July 2010.  Tomasko was a tireless editor of the East Asian Library Journal, working closely with the faculty of the East Asian Studies Department, Program, and the East Asian Library and the Gest Collection at Princeton University. 

She taught classes at several institutions, including Bryn Mawr College, Connecticut College, and Princeton University.
