To all Princeton students in Chinese and Japanese:
Venice-Princeton Summer School with the two tracks in Classical Chinese and Classical Japanese/Kanbun — deadline February 28, 2025
The summer school runs for the five weeks from July 7 through August 8, 2025.
In each track, the Summer School runs for 75 hours of language instruction, plus 16 hours of additional content lectures in Chinese and Japanese history, literature, and thought. Princeton departments will be able to recognize this highly intensive course for Princeton credit.
Tuition is set at EUR 1,250 (ca. US$1,300). Housing in Venice is set at EUR 700 in a double-occupancy room and EUR 1,000 in a single-occupancy room. Single rooms are in limited supply and will be offered on a first-come, first-serve basis. In addition, students should calculate a round-trip economy-class airfare of $1,500.
The summer school is taught by the principal faculty of Venice (for Chinese) and Princeton (for Japanese), guaranteeing the highest quality of instruction. For a systematic and comprehensive introduction to either Classical Chinese or Classical Japanese/Kanbun, it is the strongest summer program anywhere around the world.
