Christopher Schad was appointed as a Japanese language lecturer in 2015. Schad went on to teach Japanese at the University of Michigan, the Middlebury College Japanese Language School, and Swarthmore College, and to develop Japanese pedagogical materials at the National Foreign Language Center at the University of Maryland. His pedagogical interests include kanji instruction and the use of realia in beginning-level language education.
