Luke Bunday

Bio/Description

Luke Bunday is a member of the Class of 2023 from the suburbs of Minneapolis, Minnesota. He does his research in Chinese and focuses on the translation and analysis of Taiwanese Modernist poets. In particular, he wants to expand on translation frameworks that prioritize faithfulness to the source text above all else. Luke switched into EAS from Molecular Biology during his junior year after taking Chinese every semester and participating in Princeton in Beijing online in 2020. He appreciates the self-directed nature of research in the department, as well as the incredibly knowledgeable and supportive faculty.

Outside of the classroom, Luke was lucky enough to participate in the Novogratz Bridge Year Program in Yunnan, China during the 2018 - 2019 school year. He has twice visited his birthplace of Taiwan, where his mother's family lives, and hopes to have the opportunity to travel there many more times. He is also a volunteer with the Mercer County crisis phone line and loves to read, draw, and try new foods. In the future he hopes to continue researching translation and Chinese and potentially go to graduate school for biology.
